  Jian Sword

32 Sword Tai Chi

Yang Style Form

  Jian-Sword

There are many styles and forms of tai chi practiced today, some of which use weaponry to reflect its origins as a form of martial art training.

Throughout Chinese history, the sword has been the most revered weapon for combat, but today its use is restricted to non-combat situations in the martial arts and also in the performing arts. It is the most graceful and popular of all weaponry used in tai chi, and is an extension of expression of its essential principles.

Sword playing is fun and entertaining. Although the sword edges are not sharpened there is a degree of danger. Adult participants only. They must do pre-sword classes first.

Players who have been studying tai chi for one year or more, have had martial art background, or can demonstrate achievement in the pre-sword classes will be allowed to sign up for this class.

Click Yin Yang Symbol to learn more about the history and different Tai Chi and Qigong styles .

Class consists of 32 movements, warm ups, sword foundation movements, cool downs, breathing, and some qigong exercises.

Regular and consistent participation in class and "playing" (practice) at home will maximize the benefits and strengthen the learning process. There will be hand outs with drawings of the form as well as detailed written instructions.
